How To Help Your Client To Find Out Their Hair Type Easily - Honest Hair Factory

Most people have no idea what their hair type is. And as a hair business owner, it is your job to help the client to understand their hair if you want to have more loyal customers. Is the hair thick/thin? Is it fine/coarse? Is it curly/straight? Nobody has any clue. People with fine hair are notorious for saying that their hair is thin, it's not thin, it's fine, those are two different things. Today we're reviewing things down to the nitty-gritty details and figuring out what the client scalp type is: is it oily/dry/normal? Do they have the high density or low density? Is the hair thick or thin? Is the hair damaged or is it healthy? And also what type of wave pattern the hair have? We'll go through everything from straight hair to the curliest of them all and everything in between. Now this will help you a lot when figuring out what products are necessary for your clients.

#1 Scalp Type

Maybe this is something you never thought about before, so let's review oily first. Typically people with oily scalps if the hair was washed in the morning and by mid-day or by night time the hair is getting pieces and there's a bit of oil on the hair strand means the hair is on the oily side. In combination with that, ask the client if the scalp by the end of the day after washing it, is shiny and can feel oil on the scalp, which means the hair is oily for sure 100%.

Now let's move on to dry scalps. Well, they look like the Sahara desert. Typically dry scalps are sensitive and prone to irritation. Sometimes your client can also experience what is considered dandruff or a dry scalp. Dandruff is not the only thing that affects the dry scalp. if there are visible little pieces of white skin sprinkled around the hair, your client probably has some sort of dry scalp condition, the scalp is dry. It can also be itchy and feel a lot of tension on the scalp like it's tight and need to rip it open and stretch it out. It feels tight, the head's dry.

And now we have normal scalps. Anybody with a normal scalp will not get a buildup of excess oils on their scalp and their hair strands by the end of the day after washing their hair in the morning. if your client doesn't notice any dry skin or flaky skin on the scalp or the head doesn't have any tension. if the client doesn't have any of those symptoms, your client probably has a normal scalp.

#2 Hair Thickness & Density

Moving on to hair thickness and hair density. people often confuse the two of this concept or assume they're both the same thing because it's not. They're two different things, not one singular thing, so get it right. 

Hair thickness is describing the actual thickness of an individual piece of hair on the head. Pull a hair out of the head and looked at it. Is it thick or thin? Then we have hair density and that describes how big the ponytail is when pulling the hair into a ponytail. Is it large/small? That's describing how many strands of hair on the head. Those are the two big things that you need to remember. Because that's the one that people get so hung up on and confused about.

To measure hair thickness if your client has a piece of sewing thread, one of the recommended methods to use is grabbing that grab a piece of thread, pluck out a piece of the hair, and compare the two side by side the hair is naturally consistent and thinner up at the top. Pluck from the back if the hair is as wide as the sewing thread or slightly thinner than that, this usually means your client has thick hair. If the hair is much thinner than the thread, then your client has thin hair. If your client doesn't have a thread around, you can also take the hair strand run it through the fingers. and if you can feel the hair very much, it usually means your client has thick hair. And otherwise your client have thin hair.

Once the clients figure out their scalp type, hair thickness, and density, then is easier for them to shop for hair products.
