If you choose the right lace, it will blend into the skin. Right, and it doesn't have to be HD. HD laces are delicate, that even when it comes to ventilating on, the bath can stretch easily, even it's single hair. People are obsessed with HD laces. so here at HHF, we want to explain to you how to choose the right lace for wigs, and then, we’ll also talk about when you should be using HD lace. it’s such a massive subject. People are obsessed with what should've been used in the first place, which is really film lace, it's not HD lace. for example, 40 denier lace, works the same as tights in the UK, same as in the US. the lower the number the more delicate it is. Exactly we've got 15 deniers, 20, 30, 40 deniers. As wig makers, they tend to use 40 deniers more for theater and 20 deniers for film, because it's finer. That's a big difference.

There is so much lace on the market. You might get confused about what to use, when not to use it, when would you use a certain type of lace? It's good that you can see various colors, the color of everyone's skin tone. like the Thermal lace is molded with heat. Its hot steam is what thermal lace is molded with. or the HD lace is what everyone likes to use. You've got different types of lace and it is really good to have a feel to make sure you're comfortable with what you're using and it's right for your clientele. One of the ways to know your way around all the different types of wig laces is to get a lace sample book. it tells you which one's which. what you can use as front lace. it will give you a guide.

Why Would A Wig Maker Use The Heavier Denier For Theater?

Theater, it's everyday use. it's blocked up, taken off, put on, taken off. We want the lace to be quite sturdy. if you do get a lace sample card, have a feel of the lace. It is important how it feels. There are some other versions out there. It blends quite well. The color of it's slightly peachy. But that's to accommodate a different kind of skin tone. A little bit too peachy. But, if a client wants a private wig, use 40 deniers for the back and then 30 for the front. the 40 denier feels a little thick. this isn't thick like when you order a wig from a manufacturer thick. This is just based on what we're used to using which is the real materials. It is a little bit more sturdy, but it still blends very well. this 40 denier will be used as a base lace in the back.

The Base Lace

The thickness of the base lace is slightly thicker than the 40 denier lace. There's a bit more stretch on the back lace. This is slightly thicker, but the knots will hold better, the bars won't stretch and it will last a long time. Honeycomb Lace

Honeycomb Lace has a hexagon shape. It is stretchier. you can use it as back lace. it’s really good for wefted work. it's got the ability to have a bit of a stretch, it can mold towards the head. The bar or the holes are bigger, you do have to be careful about what you are creating. there is more space, you wouldn't want to do fine work on it, because you aren't going to see the whole lace, whereas, if you are doing something thicker, density wise, this probably would work. This would be really good for wefts too. the best thing to do when you're working with different types of materials is that you have to see how well you work with different types of materials, it's great to get a few pieces and practice with them. It's all trial and error.

HD Lace

Frontals, closures, making sure that it blends to the skin. As long as you choose the right lace, it will blend into the skin. it doesn't have to be HD. If your tension's too tight, this is not everyday use lace. What most people are getting when they're ordering HD lace wig is film lace. They are selling it as HD lace, but that is not what HD lace is. There's a particular way that you are to use this lace, which is doubling it. when it comes to wigs for film and TV, what we would do for the top is double it, when it is, it's doubled and then the first kind of half a centimeter is single-layered, ventilated and it would be cut off to make sure that the integrity of the lace is kept. And then still, it's completely fragile. if you're trying to make a wig for everyday use, to put this on and off and on and off, this is not going to last. 30 denier, 40 denier is completely fine. The edges do blend very nicely.
